Guitarist Arne Jansen ("one of the best and most versatile German guitarists" / Süddeutsche Zeitung) has been causing an international stir for some time now in a duo with the virtuoso cellist Stephan Braun with their interpretations of Dire Straits. In the atmospheric Kulturspeicher of Schloss Berthelsdorf, they will present their latest project "Short Stories." In it, they return to their own roots. In their compositions, they leave the boundaries between jazz, folk, pop, and Americana behind.
What makes this evening special is the unspoken understanding and complete equality between two exceptional musicians who have known each other for ages. Stephan Braun, a pioneer of modern cello playing, acts sometimes as an accompanist, sometimes as a virtuoso soloist, while Jansen shapes melodies of rare sincerity on his six strings. Through the innovative use of delays, loops, and volume pedals, the duo creates soundscapes that often sound like much more than just two instruments – from finely pulsing grooves to atmospheric, almost synthesizer-like textures.
"Short Stories" is an invitation to listen to the unspoken and immerse yourself in spaces with long reverberation. It is music that digs deep to leave the audience with something lasting – an intense, humble response to the restlessness of our time.
"A jazz guitarist of the caliber of the Berliner hasn't been seen in Germany for decades. Perhaps never." (Jazzthetik)
