The German National Youth Jazz Orchestra (BuJazzO) is Germany's premier young jazz orchestra. For 37 years, BuJazzO has been an important and highly sought-after stepping stone in the careers of young jazz musicians. After a successful audition, each member is accepted into the BuJazzO program for a maximum of two years. New talents then move up to the big band, which is considered a springboard for a successful musical career in the jazz scene. Jazz greats such as Till Brönner, Tom Gaebel, Julia Hülsmann, Jakob Manz, Johanna Summer, Nils Wogram, Alma Naidu, and Michael Wollny launched their careers here.
Since the summer of 2025, the big band has been under the artistic direction of Theresia Philipp, who hails from Saxony. The program "As We Go" features music with collective energy and strong individual voices from across Germany.
In "As We Go," everything revolves around musical exchange, encounter, and openness. The music reflects diversity, not as a fixed concept, but as an organic process: sometimes political, sometimes personal, always characterized by curiosity and spontaneity. Jazz here offers the space to respect traditions without clinging to them.
