The New York-based singer combines jazz with subtle folk echoes. She understands her voice as an instrument for shaping the song structure and manages to create an intimate and unmistakable musical world. Full of melancholy and expressiveness, Danielle Wertz concerts are a captivating, sometimes even hypnotic experience.
She unfolds her greatest effect in fragile ballads, in which her magical timbre literally enchants and juggles with emotions.
After becoming the youngest semi-finalist in the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocals Competition in 2015, she released albums, performed at jazz festivals and starred in a remarkable musical about the lives of Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen before embarking on a solo tour of the US, selling out prestigious venues such as SFJAZZ in San Francisco. That year she also travelled to Europe for the first time. As an educator, Danielle led workshops and masterclasses at the Berkeley Jazzschool, became a faculty member at the California Jazz Conservatory where she taught private voice lessons, and joined the faculty at Sonoma State University as an adjunct professor of voice in the classical music department.
