The album is the result of a collaboration between several distinctive artists and formally builds on a musical style that originated in Italy around 1600, which it places in a contemporary context.
The initial inspiration for this project comes from Nicholas Lens and Nick Cave's L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S. L.I.T.A.N.I.E.S was a response to loneliness, separation and insecurity in a pandemic era, and to a disturbing world of violence and aggression. Martin Prokeš (Lípa Musica) approached Beata Hlavenková to stage this work. Soon, the idea of creating a completely new unique project of Beata's music was born because of her courage to experiment, her unmistakable handwriting and her ability to move beyond the boundaries of genres while always remaining herself.
And so Monodie 2.0 was born, a modern reinterpretation of an old form set in the context of contemporary music and lyrics. Here Hlavenková brings together unexpected instrumentation: from bass clarinet to kora and balalaika to string quartet, creating a cohesive and sonically daring mosaic full of counterpoint, subtle layers and rhythmic surprises. In addition to Beata Hlavenková, the recording features vocalist Martin Prokeš, clarinetist and vocalist Vojtěch Nýdl, Kirill Yakovlev with plucked instruments and trumpeter Oskar Török. The Pavel Bořkovec Quartet, whose violist Matěj Kroupa is behind the musical arrangements, also has its place in the cycle. The dramaturgy of the poetry block was undertaken by the poet JQR, Natálie Deáková and Beata Hlavenková.
