A selection of the award-winning Most Beautiful German Books 2024 will be on display at the Zittau University Library from June 2 to 27, 2025.
The books honored by the Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation) can be viewed during the library's opening hours.
The 25 "Most Beautiful German Books" are exemplary in their design, conception, and craftsmanship. The selection also includes the quieter, solidly crafted reading book. The award-winning books set a precedent and demonstrate important trends and movements in German book production. There are five winners in each of the five categories: "General Literature," "Academic Books/Technical Books/School and Textbooks," "Guidebooks, Nonfiction," "Art Books, Photo Books, Exhibition Catalogs," and "Children's Books, Young Adult Books."
Since 1966, the Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation), based in Frankfurt am Main and Leipzig, has been critically monitoring German book production. Its goal is to promote the quality of books from both a technical and artistic perspective. The foundation's primary mission is the "Most Beautiful German Books" competition. With its competitions, the Stiftung Buchkunst aims to draw the public's attention beyond the content to outstanding achievements in book design and production, thereby raising awareness of the book as a medium and its form. Books from German publishers and foreign publishers are eligible to participate, provided the technical production took place exclusively in Germany.
