The trio of guitarist David Dorůžka, flautist and singer Robert Fischmann and percussionist and drummer Martin Novák was founded at the end of 2020 with the aim of creating new music at the interface between world music and jazz improvisation - inspired by Jewish musical traditions from various regions of Europe and the Middle East.
The ensemble is characterised by an extraordinarily original sound language, which results from both the unusual instrumentation and the free treatment of traditional subjects. Hasidic liturgical chants from Eastern Europe meet medieval melodies from Spain - and Ashkenazi songs in Yiddish stand side by side with inspirations from the New York downtown scene.
In September 2023, the debut album Gilgul (Hebrew for "cycle" or "cycle") was released on the Animal Music label - in an expanded line-up with various guests. The album was enthusiastically received by both Czech and international experts: It won the prestigious Anděl Prize in the jazz category, won the "Česká jazzová sklizeň" radio poll, came 7th in the World Music Charts Europe and was also nominated for the German Record Critics' Award. The Czech jazz blog jazzport.cz wrote: "Listening intently, you can feel that this music flows from the heart - and penetrates the heart..." - and awarded the highest rating of five stars.
