The Oberlausitzer Kammermusikfestival takes place every two years, alternating with the Oberlausitzer Kammermusikfestival (KMO Academy) under the artistic direction of violist Prof. Nils Mönkemeyer, in collaboration with the Musikschule Carl Maria v. Weber Dresden and the Sächsischer Musikrat. Within the KMO Academy, highly gifted young musicians have the opportunity to work on demanding chamber music literature under the guidance of renowned instructors. KMO Academy instructors work closely with music educators of students from the region and present the results to the public at the end of the Academic Days. At two final concerts in the districts of Bautzen and Görlitz, teachers and students, professionals and amateurs will perform together, allowing the audience to experience participants from the academic field in their training partnership. Graduates of the Chamber Music Academy are admitted into the alumni circle.
