KÖLN 75 tells the captivating and true story of the rebellious 18-year-old Vera Brandes (Mala Emde), who confidently and passionately puts everything on the line to realise her dream. Against the wishes of her conservative parents, she books the Cologne Opera House at her own risk to bring Keith Jarrett (John Magaro) to Cologne for a concert in January 1975.
She doesn't know it yet, but this improvised piano lesson, which threatens to fail until the very end, is immortalised on record and considered by many to be one of the most popular works of art of the 20th century: Keith Jarrett's "The Köln Concert".
In the early 1970s, Cologne teenager Vera Brandes came into contact with international jazz greats and proved to be a natural at organising gigs. In 1975, she pulled off a special coup with a solo performance by Keith Jarrett at the Cologne Opera, which made jazz history despite the improvised setting. The historical film retells the story of the "Köln Concert" with a few liberties and focuses on both the enterprising young organiser and the accomplished artist. As a fast-paced comedy about improvisation and self-empowerment that deals with breaks in illusion, the film has a number of surprises in store.
