The festival was brought to life by two friends, Johanka and Miriam, who are united by a love for music, theater, and nature.
The KUKOKLI project originated in 2016 when we began to take an interest in forgotten places and, in particular, the unused potential of churches. Back then, we organized a "Year Zero" at the Church of St. Clement in Prague. In 2018, we discovered the dilapidated Baroque Pilgrimage Church of the Visitation of the Virgin Mary in Horní Vítkov near Liberec, a cultural monument of the Czech Republic. The place enchanted us at first sight, and we knew immediately: we wanted to put on a festival with an extraordinary atmosphere in this magical location surrounded by meadows and forests. The Kačani couple, who manage the monument, supported us, and so the dream came true – the first KUKOKLI festival took place at the end of September 2018.
KUKOKLI is all about an intimate atmosphere. We consciously want to distinguish ourselves from crowded, impersonal, large-scale events.
