One of the biggest names in the music industry, producer, composer and trumpeter Quincy Jones, has predicted a promising future for Laura Kipp's voice: "This young woman doesn't need to worry about her career," he said when he heard Laura Kipp at the 2017 Jazzopen in Stuttgart, "she's great and I'm sure we'll be hearing more from her in the future."
She was born in Waiblingen near Stuttgart and studied jazz singing at the HMDK Stuttgart and the CNSM Paris. In 2015, she became a member of the Bundesjazzorchester for two and a half years and performed numerous concerts and TV shows with the orchestra. In 2017, she made her first major appearance at the Stuttgart Jazzopen before moving to Paris to continue her training at the National Conservatory there. Paris has since become her second home.
One of the most distinctive saxophone voices on the French jazz scene, Eric Séva, will be a special guest at this evening's concert. Séva, who comes from a family of musicians, began his jazz career in 1989 with Dave Liebman in New York. He was later a member of the French Orchestre National de Jazz, but also worked with musicians such as Chris Rea and the singer ZAZ, with whom he performed at the Jazzopen in Stuttgart. Eric Séva's music is always narrative and sensitive. His profound tone, his finely balanced melodies, his lyricism and the groove that characterises his saxophone playing give his playing an unmistakable touch.
Stuttgarter Zeitung: "Anyone who has heard and seen hundreds of female singers as a jazz critic is somewhat hardened and no longer so easily impressed. But you can't fail to be impressed by LAURA right away. As young as she still is, she is and sounds mature, well-travelled and charismatic. She ranges from her native Swabia to Paris, New York or Los Angeles, from radiant songwriter ballads to tough vocal jazz, from soulful blues to a string-saturated Hollywood sound. And she has already internalised the unique power of jazz, which lies in the interaction of individual expression and collective creativity."
