Pierre Laurent Aimard performs piano music by Johann Sebastian Bach and György Kurtág
For his recital at the Moravian Church in Herrnhut, French pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard presents no fewer than 33 pieces. Most of these are quite short—miniatures by the Hungarian composer György Kurtág, who celebrated his 100th birthday in Budapest last February in good health. Aimard interweaves Kurtág's miniatures with excerpts from Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier" and "The Art of Fugue." The concert offers a rare opportunity to experience the correspondences and tensions between these two composers, separated by two and a half centuries, performed by arguably the world's most accomplished interpreter.
