On Saturday, September 5, 2026, after many years, an unconventional experience will be prepared (not only) for the citizens of Turnov and the surrounding area, who will be able to visit the night ramparts of Valdštejn Castle and, on this occasion, meet the bats that rule this castle after dark.
International Bat Night at Valdštejn Castle has been prepared for you by members of the Czech Union for Nature Conservation CHIROPTERO in cooperation with the administration of Valdštejn Castle, the town of Turnov, and the administration of the Bohemian Paradise Protected Landscape Area, under the auspices of Euro Bats. Taking place again after a several-year break on Saturday, September 5, 2026, from 8:30 PM to midnight, visitors will have a unique opportunity to get to know the night inhabitants on the ramparts of Valdštejn Castle. The program includes demonstrations of bat research methods, a lecture with a slide show, and an introduction to the reasons for and methods of bat conservation. Care for permanently disabled bats will also be presented, and there will be live bats to see that we manage to catch during the event. Young daredevils will have the chance to release smaller species back into the wild. There will also be bat feeding for children (a throwing target with a hole instead of a mouth), or the opportunity to take a photo in the guise of a bat. Of course, promotional materials featuring bats will also be available for purchase. Every visitor will receive a commemorative ticket.
