A Czech musical group that combines several genres – above all jazz, blues, funk, and world music. As one of the few Czech bands, the “Minuty” have also celebrated international success – with around 200 concerts in clubs and at festivals in countries such as the Netherlands, Poland, France, Slovakia, the USA, and England.
Their particular strength lies in their live performances, which are largely characterized by improvisation, brilliant musicianship, and an extraordinary singer.
In 1999, Minus123minut received the renowned Czech music award Anděl as “Discovery of the Year” and have been on the radar for this award regularly ever since. Incidentally, the band name came about completely by chance, as a play on words – without any deeper meaning.
The band's stylistic openness, which navigates between soul, groove, jazz, blues, funk, and world music, is one of their greatest strengths. Since their concerts are heavily based on improvisation, the audience never knows where a piece will lead – and is thus always surprised anew. The performances are visually exciting, captivating, and often absolutely danceable.
When the band broke up in 2009 after ten years, they left a palpable gap in the Czech music scene. The joy over their reunion in 2016 was all the greater – not only for die-hard fans but also for all those looking for music that is intelligent, open, profound, and goes beyond scratching the surface.
