The European city of Görlitz-Zgorzelec is unique in many respects, including its own German-Polish effort to process the city's history as a site of violence during the Nazi regime. Alongside the prisoner-of-war camp Stalag VIII A, traces of this violence can also be found within the Görlitz city area – specifically, the forced labor performed here by people, both prisoners and civilians. Who was affected by forced labor in Görlitz – and what do we know today about their specific living and working conditions? In a guided bicycle tour, Alexandra Grochowski, Managing Director of Meetingpoint Memory Messiaen e.V., will show participants several sites of forced labor and place them in the context of the latest research.
