From May 19 to 22, 2025, the Emil-Ufer-Grundschule Olbersdorf, in collaboration with O-See Sports and the partner school from Jablonné v Podještědí, is hosting a project week titled “Cross-border O-See Primary School Triathlon”. The week is dedicated to physical activity, cooperation, and cross-border exchange. The project is co-financed by the Small Projects Fund Interreg Saxony–Czech Republic 2021–2027 of the Euroregion Neisse – a program that promotes and supports the organization and implementation of cross-border events, group exchanges, public relations projects, and much more.
A total of 170 children will participate in the project week – including all students from the Emil-Ufer-Grundschule as well as 20 children from the Czech Republic. The children are divided into 17 fixed squads of 10 to 12 participants each. These groups remain together for the entire week and also form the starting groups for the final triathlon. Girls and boys train together, regardless of age or grade.
The training days are thematically structured: Monday focuses on running, Tuesday on swimming and water activities, and Wednesday on cycling. Each day, 17 stations are offered, which the squads cycle through. The school is supported in this by a multitude of external partners: For example, on Monday, students from the Zinzendorfschulen Herrnhut and Ulrich Hoyer will assist at the running stations. On Tuesday, the German Red Cross, Jana Günter from the family office Familienbüro Mosaik, and other supporters will be involved. Wednesday will be supported by, among others, the police, the traffic patrol (Verkehrswacht), ADAC, ADFC Zittau, Applaudino, and Fritz Fahrräder.
The sporting highlight of the week is the big triathlon on Thursday, which takes place directly at the Olbersdorfer See. There, the children will apply what they have learned from the three disciplines in a child-friendly competition. The organization of the triathlon takes place in close cooperation with committed parents who have organized themselves into specific organizational teams – including catering, medical services, course marshals, scoring, transition zones, and moderation. Numerous partners are involved again on this day, including O-See Sports, the German Red Cross, DLRG, Seestern Olbersdorf, Captain Hook, as well as students from the Zinzendorfgymnasium Herrnhut.
