An opera for children about an adventurous voyage into the unknown.
Czech music publicist and composer Lukáš Hurník was inspired by Jules Verne's captivating visionary 1870 story Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea when creating the libretto and music for his new opera, Trouble on the Ship Nautilus. Hurník guides young viewers and their loved ones through the playful corners of the opera genre and an ingenious, wittily updated story of the brave Captain Nemo, who sets out in his beloved submarine with a very distinct crew beyond the horizon of the Pacific Ocean into the far depths to investigate a mysterious object of unknown origin. The expedition goes quite smoothly until a malfunction occurs. How will the crew handle such a situation? What is this intriguing object? And will Nemo and his friends manage to return to the surface? The world premiere of this fairy-tale comic opera took place on July 13, 2024, at the Městské divadlo Znojmo. Now, we are presenting it with joyful anticipation to the Liberec audience, reviving the earlier tradition of staging operatic fairy-tale titles for families with children.
