Veřejně nepřístupná vodní plocha is a trio playing instrumental jazz with piano, drums, and double bass – seasoned with influences ranging from folklore and big beat to alternative and "acoustic electronica." Their music is rooted in jazz, but they do not build stylistic barriers or dams. Striking melodic motifs and catchy, minimalist grooves merge with influences of Moravian folklore.
They create a fusion of styles and a genuine immersion in world music. Simple melodies, gripping compositions, and soundscapes that – despite their name – are very accessible to the audience. The band participated in the Mladí ladí jazz competition and released their debut album, Decoration Storage, in 2024, which combines the minimalism of a jazz trio with the sound of a large band. Those looking for similar projects in current jazz will likely find them more in Scandinavia – for instance, The Bad Plus or GoGo Penguin. Yet the energetic, sonically rich, instrumentally masterful, and imaginative compositions of Veřejně nepřístupná vodní plocha are nonetheless different: independent, with an unmistakably Czech jazz DNA.
