On June 17, State Archaeologist Dr. Regina Smolnik will give a lecture on "More Than Just From the Air - Saxony Archaeologically." Saxony's rich history can in many cases only be proven archaeologically. The monuments are particularly impressive to observe from the air. In her lecture, Dr. Regina Smolnik, Saxon State Archaeologist, will show what else archaeologists encounter in their daily work, how structures uncovered during excavations come together to form settlements, and how they make the people who shaped this Saxon history visible. The "Highlights of State Archaeology" from all over Saxony are numerous, sometimes impressively large in scale, sometimes almost vanishingly small. Chronologically, they range from the first settlements in Saxony from the 6th millennium BC to graves from the modern era. But they always provide a glimpse into the past that only archaeology can offer.
