Karasek-Museum
The museum in Seifhennersdorf, Saxony, is dedicated to one of the most famous figures of the region – the legendary outlaw Johannes Karasek. Housed in a historic former customs building, it transports visitors back to around 1800, when Karasek’s robber band operated in the deep forests along the Saxon-Bohemian border. The exhibition details his life as well as the harsh realities of historical life in the Upper Lusatia region. One room is also dedicated to the former GDR, and there are displays showing the traditional way of living in timber-framed (Upper Lusatian) houses. The Karasek Museum is very popular with families, as history is presented in an engaging and playful way, featuring regular themed events and costumed tours that bring the old legends of the Borderlands to life.
