Valdštejnská lodžie
Not far from Jičín, at the foot of the basalt hill Zebín, stands one of the most impressive Early Baroque monuments in Bohemia. The Wallenstein Loggia (Valdštejnská lodžie) was built between 1627 and 1632 by Duke Albrecht von Wallenstein as a grand summer chateau—part of a magnificent project that was ultimately never finished. The building opens up to the surrounding landscape through massive arcades with a terrace, behind which lies the Libosad Park with a grotto, and the entire complex is connected to Jičín by a nearly two-kilometer-long lime tree avenue.
Its unfinished state is not a flaw here; it is part of the site’s very character. That is precisely why the non-profit organisation Valdštejnské imaginárium chose it as a base for live art, alternative culture, and unconventional ways of bringing history to life. Today, the Loggia has transformed into a vibrant cultural and community hub, hosting annual festivals, theatre performances, workshops, and family events.
Since 2018, every first weekend of September, it has played host to the Lodžie Worldfest, a celebration of world music, alternative music, and innovative theatre that makes this Baroque summer chateau one of the most distinctive and unique festival venues in the region.
