Set against the backdrop of the GDR, the period of reunification, and the early years of a reunified Germany, this novel paints a vivid portrait of people searching for stability, connection, and direction. At the center are Georg, who believes in progress through computers and cybernetics, and the artist Mona. Surrounding them are characters with very different hopes, attitudes, and life paths: the disillusioned Roland, the reform-minded Marlies, and a circle of artists and friends. A village near Wandlitz becomes a place where personal relationships and political reality intersect in a unique way. The reading explores the subtle tensions between new beginnings and alienation, between conformity and resistance, closeness and loss.
