One-act play from the Vaněk trilogy by Václav Havel
Divadlo F. X. Šaldy Liberec
In Czech with German surtitles
This well-known one-act play, inspired by the life of the author Václav Havel, brilliantly reveals the absurdity of the communist regime. The writer Vaněk, who is employed as a simple labourer in a brewery, is called in by his superior Sládek, who wants to make him an offer - a promotion to warehouse clerk, but not without compensation. Even before its first official performance in a Czech theatre, the play was translated into thirteen languages and performed worldwide. Many of the dialogues have become popular and are still quoted today, especially by the older generation of Czech viewers.
The production was created in collaboration with the institution "Paměť národa" (Memory of the Nation).
