Since her husband Mark (Colin Firth) died four years ago, Bridget Jones (Renée Zellweger) has been living as a single mum and looks after her 9-year-old son Billy and 4-year-old Mabel with great dedication. She receives active support from her loyal friends, who are like an adopted family to her, as well as from her former lover Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), who always comes to the rescue. Encouraged by this strong community, Bridget ventures back into the world and begins to participate more in life again. As she tries to juggle her career, family and love life, she soon finds herself confronted with all kinds of challenges. Not only does she have to stand up to the prejudices of the supposedly perfect mums at school, but she also has to deal with the advances of a much younger man and survive a series of embarrassing encounters with her son's overly rational science teacher. But Bridget Jones wouldn't be Bridget Jones if she didn't overcome all these hurdles in a chaotic but charming way.
