The gray social reality of today's Belarus sparklingly merges with an archetypal story about growing up and seeking independence. Can a young welder weld the gloomy pieces of her past and family back together?
Through her passion for welding, Katya managed to find her own path in life despite a difficult coexistence with an alcohol-addicted mother. However, the vicious cycle of addiction and trauma opens up again for Katya's little sister. Every time she returns to her hometown, the girl sees that her mother has not changed and is unable to take care of her second daughter either. This intimate documentary observation uniquely "welds" together a coming-of-age story and a social drama that asks a complex question: How can one prevent social determinism and live a better life than the one we seem destined for?
