In cheeky harmony, taxi driver and bigamist John Smith lives according to an exact schedule with two wives at two addresses, until an accident throws everything into chaos and his worried spouses ask two police stations for help. Help arrives in the form of two harmless police inspectors. With the help of his friend and neighbor Stanley, John leads them into a labyrinth of fantastic excuses and lies, in which the harmless wives Mary and Barbara turn into transvestites and hysterical nuns, while the nimble John portrays the horrified Stanley now as a child, now as a homosexual seducer. There is no way out of this maze, where no eye remains dry and no truth is left standing, until both law enforcement officers (and the audience) succumb to the law of madness.
