The “Honorary Neisse Fish Award” at the 23rd NEISSE NYSA NISA FILM FESTIVAL goes to Polish director Jan Komasa. He is one of the most influential filmmakers of his generation. He gained international recognition with “Suicide Room” (2011), before earning further worldwide acclaim with “Corpus Christi” (2019) and being nominated for an Oscar in the “Best International Feature Film” category. In his films, Komasa combines social analysis with great emotional intensity and a distinct visual style. Films like “The Hater” (2020) powerfully illustrate the mechanisms of modern societies caught between the digital public sphere and political radicalization. In his new film “Heel” Jan Komasa continues to explore themes of power, morality, and identity. The film will be screened as part of the Honorary Award ceremony at the Kronenkino in Zittau.
