Getting to know each other could hardly have gone worse: Isaac tries to impress a woman at the bowling alley and knocks down her sister Edith, who has a walking disability. Nevertheless, a friendship develops between them - his winning manner gives Edith, who has recently had a serious accident, new courage to face life. When the young woman falls in love with him, Isaac agrees to a relationship despite his lack of feelings. He compensates for his guilty conscience by supporting Edith's desire for healing through a controversial therapy. But her growing mistrust and his obsession with wanting to cure her lead to an intoxicating maelstrom that drags everyone into disaster.
